Adrian Noble directs Sir Antony Sher as Edmund Kean, considered the greatest classical actor of the 19th century. Drawn loosely from life, Jean Paul Sartres play (based on an earlier play by Alexandre Dumas) shows Kean as a pretender of the higest order with a private life like a public performance.
